Myths and Non-Myth about Cell Phones and Telemarketers
It’s been long time that cell phone users are fearful and worried that as cellular technology advances, the risk of annoying telemarketers calling our cell phone would also start increasing as well. Unfortunately, telemarketers are indeed can find ways to obtain our cellular numbers (or at least find used an auto dialler to call us). However, cellular users can still find ways in dismissing their worries and anxiety. With all the negative publicity about cell phone users being at risk for sales calls from telemarketers are false.
To simplify, below are some of the myths and non-myths about cell phones and telemarketers.
Myth 1: Telemarketers will soon be granted access to all mobile phone numbers.
Calm down and relax, for this myth is entirely false. This myth about cell phone directory be given to telemarketers have been around since 2004, and nothing has ever come to reality. Furthermore, all planned cell phone directories listings would only include cell phone users on a voluntary basis. In addition, these directories would not be readily made available to telemarketers, and the commercial use of cell phone lookup would be illegal.
Myth 2: Telemarketers can easily get my location and identity using just my cell phone.
In theory, any individual or company can find out our name and address via a reverse cell phone lookup. However, you do not have to worry about businesses starting a massive reverse cell phone directory trend, calling your cell phone at all hours of the day. Instead, they have other more cost-effective ways to find customers.
Telemarketing is a profitable ways of sales because it is so cost-efficient. All they need is just a phone plan and a few low-cost labourers – making it more inexpensive than advertising or paper mailers. Telemarketers buy large quantity and bulks of landline phone number information from suppliers, providing them with more than sufficient data to make their annoying calls. Subsequently, it would be unproductive and inefficient for telemarketers to go out of their way to obtain cell phone numbers. The point of this type of sales model is to minimize initial expenses.
Myth 3: All calls from telemarketing to cell phones are illegal.
Unfortunately, telemarketing calls are only illegal in some states but in Canada all telemarketer calls are illegal. Some interpret the laws to make telemarketing calls to cell phones as illegal under FCC rules, but many companies argue that it is lawful if the cell phone is the customer’s only phone and has permission from cell phone owners to call. Federal rules are up for debate, but one thing is assured: many states have indeed created laws to prevent telemarketing calls to cell phones.
Telemarketers can always call your mobile phone by using an auto dialler. An auto dialler is basically a machine that dials random numbers until it gets a live person on the line. Companies that play sales messages that instruct you to "dial one to speak to a representative" often use this type of technology, which is why these types of calls are beginning to hit cellular users more regularly.
Unfortunately, irritating sales calls will always be a part of most people’s daily lives. For the time being, however, they are not yet a regular part of most cell phone users’ daily routine.
